Quote from zeugnimod :How much did you pay him for the free publicity?

We offered him a chase view drive on the server

Crisis is striking, iRacing can not lower prices now taking the risk of infuriating premium subscribers so they are handing out vouchers and discounts everywhere.
If they don't reconsider their pricing the userbase will decrease, that would be dramatic.
I am quite impressed with the marketing solutions found by iRacing to go through the deep - very clever!

I will be easier to review if you attach the .spr file (single player replay).
The raf file is only the telemetry data of your lap, it can give indications but not as easily.

Drive in hotlap mode, when you are done save a replay (I think the shortcut is "2"). After naming the replay you will find it in the LFS\data\spr folder.

SilverArrows77: Interesting news, thanks
Now let us wait for the prices to drop (financial crisis helping) - time is on our side it seems...

Here are the import / export capabilities of Solidworks (attached screenshot)

scipy has an exceptional knowledge of setups building but you can grab the basics and use them:

The more your diff is locked, the less your can will turn.

Downhill: weight transfer is increased, so the "standard - flat braking zone" balance between rear and front is no more valid, You can compensate (for RWD cars), using engine braking -BUT make sure the downshift is executed correctly to prevent lockups (rev the engine enough so that when the clutch is released it does not cause a jolt).

Use the opposite of above to force the rear end of the car to lose grip, and get the car to turn.

Post a file that can be imported in Solidworks and I will post back the 3D model in a free viewer compatible format that comes with solidworks (edrawings). dxf won't work well as Solidworks only considers it as 2D, dxf 3D files do exist but are not common and difficult to convert.

Read this:
http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/W ... tting_up_a_Logitech_Wheel

I use 720° rotation in profiler and "wheel turn compensation" to 1 in game, so the wheel adjusts to the rotation of the selected car in LFS. When you exceed this rotation value however you do not meet a hard stop but the wheel stops responding, it is a FF simulated stop only.

Use the search function as well, I remember a very good thread regarding G25 setup in the main section of the forum.
Enjoy!

Besides discarding the shi(f)ter I use the G25 full range (rotation degrees set to what the car specifies in LFS, clutch) and use cockpit view for racing. I also try not to use locked diffs and unbelievably stiff setups but rather build my own.
I used to race with a mouse and was probably more competitive at that time, but would not go back there even for 1s/minute laptimes.
It is all about having fun, and the immersion brought by "manual driving" floats my boat

Quote from jelston :Thanks for the help, I've hit 1.16 now. If I can consistantly get down to 1.15 I think this is a purchase.

Your call... but you already sound like an addict

Give the other cars a go, changeing your point of view may help you - focusing hard on a single car / track combination will slow down your progress.
Regarding S2: the reverse configuration of this track, BL1R, is more interesting to drive (in my opinion) with off camber curves and the damn dangerous downhill braking. Try it offline!

G25 shifter kills my laptimes as it drops off the desk after a few laps (the 3rd bolt does not fit due to support thickness and configuration, so the balance is precarious).
As I scramble under the desk to retrieve and install it back it my control of the car is somewhat altered getting me to lose a few 1/10th.

Next patch will be released when this thread and all its merged additions all die.

All the moaning and speculation is too much fun for the devs to end that now

I am aware that posting in this thread postpones the patch further. Sorry!

Juls - Is that dll in relation with your post in the programmer's forum?

I'm impressed with the quality of this pack, browsing through the pics and vids...
Can't wait to test it inside LFS when I'm out of work

Thank you Lynce for your time and skills, and for making this public. This kind of dedication makes LFS shine

Nearly there!
Set the "wheel turn compensation" to 1 and you are done.

Thanks for the review, very nice read.
This is of course not a wall, it is structured argumentation and no so biased as the title hints. I am at work so the necessary 1/4 hour could be found easily .
I appreciate your efforts to put words on what you feel during sim racing, such a difficult thing to do.

To the OP: have you tried nkp? It would be very interesting to get your opinion on this "other" sim as well - life exists beyond LFS and iracing! Next build should be here in a few weeks / months but the single player bit (physics) should remain unaffected from what I've read, so it may be worth trying.

I have to defend nihil there.
He did not say "stop working", only do it 3/5 of the "standard" working times for europeans.

We are producing too much crap already, so the 3/5 guess may be what we need to keep a balance between supply and demand without the need to artificially create demand (advertising to convince you that you need "stuff").

My opinion is that consuming more does not make you happy (consuming at all does not make me happy though). However owning x times more handbags than one can carry is any wife's dream it seems.

Do you have anyone to support apart from yourself?
Do you have backup plans (basic living income possibility / crash place / savings) if number 2 fails?

If no and yes, why not give it a go?
Only thing I've found with jobs is that grass always looks greener in the field you are not in

If you use a Logitech mouse, the logitech control panel allows you to setup the mouse with a specific game setting - different sensibility and even different actions for the mouse buttons.
Worth a look

I switched from mouse to G25 months ago, after gazillon years of mousing in LFS (at least 2 years demo before S2, but not continuous).

I have yet to beat my mouse pbs in the slower cars... I am now coming close to them but still missing a few 10ths here and there.

So 5 months, and not quite there yet talk about a slow learner! I'm sure you can do better

On the other hand I do not race that much - maybe 2 hours a week.

All in basic, no floppy discs - a tape only. Took up to 30 minutes of a screetchy tune to load a simple game on the beast... No fancy windows 3.0 back then

This is not spam.
It is a way to point out a too common behaviour on these forums using a joke. Saves words and explanations, gets right to the point, attracts attention and as a by-product provides the opportunity to identify forumers with no sense of humour or self derision at all.
I feel ashamed to have to debate it though, but better me than Spankmeyer having to ruin his own post by explaining it.
I personally found it funny and to the point, thanks.

I got bored with CTRA because of the points race.
The idea behind the points was interesting, intending to select and promote cleaner and faster racers to regroup them in higher tier servers where more competitive and cleaner races could occur on a pickup basis.
I had excellent fun on race2 for a while but got disappointed when the LRF class disappeared. I never liked the race3 server - not so clean at the back where I belong

On the other hand the points system created unnatural competition and tension, that a good amount of racers apparently could not cope with.

I have looked around and finally found a place to race: Dead Men Racing.
Server admins online when I happen to be (some evenings, Europe time) - no voting!
Clean racers welcome there, even not so fast.

1 combo for one week, 10-20minutes pickup races. On thursday evening 1 hour race on the weekly combo. This means I usually have a few training sessions and short races fun duing the week, and try to get ready for the "big" race.

I have tried combos I was not seeing anywhere on standard servers, used cars I thought I could not drive, had fights for laps and laps without stupid / reckeless moves.

I am certain there are other servers and places as good, hiding for you to find.

My conclusion:
LFS does offer a great amount of combos, but only a few are available that have racers on. Interesting series or concepts will only attract racers through advertisement as there is no governing structure above the servers, like iRacing.
On the other hand this anarchy is the unavoidable drawback of LFS and the freedom of choice it offers (unlike iRacing ).
This freedom made LFS what it is: full of niches, where anything can be found (and also the best, worst and in-between).

The only things we can do to help are, in my opinion:
Avoid creating yet one more server with an existing over-used combo
Welcome newcomers properly and train them when they show the will
Be polite (if not nice) and helpful on the forums. Write less posts (spam?) and more actual content that can be used by others.

All this to give LFS a welcoming and entertaining image, increase the userbase in quantity and quality for the benefit of us all.
